Bengaluru: Around 60 Dalit artistes are scheduled to fly to Singapore this month-end to participate in Kannada Sammelan. It will be the first-of-its-kind tour for Dalit artistes to take part in Kannada Sammelan to be organized by Kannada-speaking people in Singapore.

It is said these Dalit artistes were supposed to participate in the Association of Kannada Kootas of America (AKKA) but could not, since only 30 of the 90 artistes were given visa to visit the US.

The Social Welfare Department decided to arrange the Singapore tour to compensate this. They would participate in the Kannada Sammelan in Singapore which would be held for two days from October 29, Social Welfare Minister H. Anjaneya said while speaking to mediapersons. “We have made arrangements for the artistes to stay two more days in Singapore to facilitate them to visit various locations and famous places in Singapore,’’ Minister Anjaneya said.
