Ayurvedic Doctor Arrested After Causing Mid-Air Panic on Bengaluru-Surat Flight
A 36-year-old Ayurvedic doctor from Shivanahalli, Vyas Hiral Mohanbhai, was arrested on Tuesday after creating a major disturbance aboard Air India Express flight IX2749 from Bengaluru to Surat. The incident caused a two-hour delay and raised serious security concerns.
According to police, the doctor bypassed the check-in counter, insisting on carrying both her bags into the cabin. Once onboard, she placed one bag in a restricted area near the crew cabin, refusing to move it to the overhead bin above her seat (20F) when requested by the flight attendants.
Despite multiple polite interventions by the crew and later the captain, Mohanbhai refused to comply, reportedly abusing staff and passengers who tried to reason with her. In a shocking escalation, she allegedly threatened to crash the aircraft if her baggage was moved.
The situation became so tense that the pilot alerted airport security, and CISF personnel were called in. The woman was offloaded from the aircraft and detained. She was later arrested by local authorities under charges related to endangering flight safety and disorderly conduct.
The incident has sparked renewed discussion around passenger behavior, airport security loopholes, and the need for stricter airline protocols. Authorities are now investigating how she managed to board with unchecked baggage and whether a psychological evaluation is warranted.
The flight eventually departed after clearance, with the remaining passengers onboard
