Bengaluru: Here is a bad news for the property tax payers of the city. The BBMP council approved the proposal of 2% surface transport cess on the property tax taking the total cess on the property tax to 26%.
According to the authorities, this two percent cess wll be collected on the property tax to take up the road and other transport infrastructure works.
The BBMP is expecting a collection of Rs.150 crores in the form of the surface transport cess, but opposition JDS and Congress announced that they will not allow the BBMP authorities to collect this cess as it will burden the people more.
According to the BBMP authorities the state government wanted the BBMP to start collecting this cess from the year 2013-14 itself to fund the road infrastructure related works, but due to the opposition from the corporators, it was not able to implement the same.
