Following a tragic incident where a 76-year-old woman was killed by stray dogs last month, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has captured over 110 stray dogs from the Jalahalli East Air Force station area. The woman, identified as Rajdulari Sinha, was attacked by a pack of dogs while on her morning walk on August 28.
BBMP officials conducted rabies tests and performed birth control surgeries on the captured dogs. None of the dogs tested positive for rabies, and 59 strays were neutered in an effort to manage the stray population. Despite these measures, the specific dogs responsible for the attack could not be identified. Eye-witnesses were unable to provide identifying information, and the post-mortem report confirmed the cause of death as dog bites, but the DNA of the attacking dogs was not available for further identification.
The civic body’s efforts are part of a broader strategy to address the issue of stray dogs in the city, particularly in light of the severe incident that led to Sinha’s death. The case has drawn attention to the need for effective stray animal management and public safety measures.
