BBMP to extend financial assistance for cardiac patients from poor families

Bengaluru: Here is good news for needy people who are suffering from cardiac problems. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has come forward to extend financial assistance for cardiac patients from poor families to enable them to get coronary stents or angioplasty surgery free of cost.

The BBMP had set aside Rs. 4 crore for providing free stents for this initiative in its 2017-18 Budget. BBMP has deposited Rs. 3.5 crore with Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research and Rs. 50 lakh with Super Speciality Hospital at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute.

The BBMP has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the two institutes to carry out one coronary/peripheral stent and coronary/peripheral angioplasty for Rs. 70,000 and two coronary/peripheral stents and coronary/peripheral angioplasty for Rs. 90,000.

The BBMP ward corporators are authorised to recommend patients from their wards to these hospitals for the free surgery.
