Bangalore: The ongoing drain construction by the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) from Colony Bus Stand to Nettakallappa Circle has brought life to a standstill for residents and commuters in N.R. Colony. The simultaneous work on both sides of the road has led to severe disruptions in vehicular traffic, business operations, parking, and access to homes.
The project, part of BBMP’s road infrastructure initiative, aims to construct concrete roads and drains to facilitate rainwater drainage. However, the decision to carry out work on both sides of the road simultaneously has intensified the problems.
Internal roads have been dug up, forcing vehicles to take alternative routes, resulting in heavy traffic congestion at Nettakallappa Circle. Locals and business owners are increasingly frustrated with the lack of planning and poor execution, which has significantly affected their daily lives.
While authorities acknowledge the inconvenience and have promised to address the traffic issues, residents complain about the absence of police personnel during traffic jams. They also question the rationale behind digging up a well-maintained road in the name of development, highlighting the difficulties in accessing homes and businesses.
The situation remains challenging for the community, with many calling for a more coordinated approach to the project’s execution.
