A BCom student and three youths have been arrested by Kothanur police for allegedly stealing over 1 kg of gold ornaments from her uncle’s home to finance a luxurious lifestyle filled with parties and trips.
The prime accused, Sachita, along with her boyfriend and classmate Yashwanth, and his friends Tanush and Ramprakash — all in their early 20s — were found to be involved in the crime. According to the police, they spent several lakhs of rupees on extravagant activities.
In early June, Sachita’s uncle, B N Srinivas, lodged a complaint stating that gold ornaments stored in a house locker had gone missing. Initially, suspicion fell on domestic workers, but investigations revealed they were not involved. Police found that Sachita had been frequently visiting her uncle’s house for six months, which eventually raised red flags.
During interrogation, Sachita admitted to stealing the ornaments in phases starting January. She revealed that she passed the stolen items to Yashwanth, who then involved Tanush and Ramprakash. The group would melt the ornaments, convert them into gold bars, and sell them for cash.
Police recovered gold ornaments worth ₹65 lakh and ₹10 lakh in cash from the accused. Further investigations are ongoing.
