Kempegowda International Airport recorded a maximum temperature of 38.2°C on Monday, marking the joint third-highest April temperature since the India Meteorological Department began observations there in 2014.

The reading is also the highest maximum temperature recorded at any weather station in Bengaluru this summer, highlighting the intense heat across the city.

One of hottest April days on record

The 38.2°C temperature, recorded at 5.30 pm, matched the figure registered on April 4, 2024.

The highest-ever April temperature at the airport remains 38.4°C, recorded on April 26, 2024. This was followed by 38.3°C on April 25, 2016, and April 6, 2024.

The airport weather station mainly represents Bengaluru’s northern and north-eastern regions, where temperatures have stayed well above the April average of 34.6°C this month.

City stations also stay warm

Other weather observatories across Bengaluru also recorded above-normal temperatures on Monday.

The city station reported 36.3°C, which was 2.2°C above normal, while the HAL airport station recorded 36.2°C, 2.3°C above seasonal averages.

April is usually Bengaluru’s hottest month, but this year’s persistent high temperatures have added to public discomfort.

Rain relief expected soon

In a positive update for residents, the India Meteorological Department has revised its forecast and expects pre-monsoon showers or thundershowers in Bengaluru from April 29.

The showers may bring temporary relief from the ongoing heatwave conditions.
