Bengaluru: As the State Assembly election is fast approaching, the problem within the BJP State unit is multiplying day by day. Upset with the party State President Nalin Kumar Kateel’s statement that party activists are more important than even a leader like him, former Chief Minister B. S. Yediyurappa decided against campaigning in the coming days for the party candidates.
According to sources, Chief Minister believes that Nalin Kumar Kateel’s statement is aimed at cutting his influence in the party State unit and denying representation to his family in the Assembly election. He decided to attend the party rallies only if he is invited by national leaders with respect.
“BSY decided not to campaign for the party voluntarily. He is repeatedly humiliated by Nalin Kumar Kateel and his team,” said a leader close to BSY.
According to sources, BSY believes that BJP can’t return to power without his blessings. “With Congress leaders strengthening the party position day by day, BJP is in a weak wicket. BSY is the only leader who can arrest the party’s slide. So, he is playing hard bargain with the leadership,” informed sources.
