The Tavarekere police have apprehended a 22-year-old carpenter named Yellappa for allegedly being involved in the death of a 14-year-old girl at her residence in Karaga Beedhi on Wednesday afternoon.
Investigators said Yellappa, who was employed in the vicinity of the victim’s home, had been closely monitoring her daily routine. Police believe he took advantage of a window of opportunity when the teenager was alone, as her parents, both daily-wage construction workers, had left early for work. Her elder brother was working at a nearby store while her younger brother attended school.
According to officials, after the incident, the suspect is believed to have taken a gas cylinder, a motorcycle, and a mobile phone from the house. He reportedly used the stolen bike to arrive at the victim’s home.
The tragic discovery was made when the girl’s younger brother returned from school around 2 pm and found her in an unresponsive condition. He immediately informed their parents and contacted the police.
Law enforcement teams secured CCTV recordings from the neighbourhood, which showed the accused moving around suspiciously near the house. Using this evidence, police managed to locate and detain Yellappa on Wednesday night.
Authorities stated that a formal case has been registered, and further inquiries are underway to gather more details surrounding the circumstances of the girl’s death.
