Bengaluru: In a shocking incident, a 39-year-old businesswoman from Bengaluru has been accused of murdering her four-year-old son in North Goa and transporting his body back to Karnataka in a bag.
The alleged perpetrator, identified as Suchana Seth, checked out of a service apartment in North Goa’s Candolim on Monday morning. The discovery of bloodstains in the apartment by housekeeping staff prompted the Goa police to be informed.
While Seth had already returned to Karnataka, she was detained at Aimangala police station in the Chitradurga district based on an alert from the Goa police. A Calangute police team was dispatched to Karnataka to take custody of Seth and bring her back to Goa on a transit remand.
The Calangute police station’s inspector, Paresh Naik, stated that Seth had provided a Bengaluru address when checking into room 404 at Hotel Sol Banyan Grande on Saturday. Despite hotel staff suggesting that flying back would be more efficient, Seth insisted on a taxi, which the hotel arranged for her.
North Goa SP Nidhi Valsan reported that a police team reached the hotel after discovering the bloodstain at around 11 am. CCTV footage allegedly showed Seth leaving the service apartment without her son.
Naik contacted the taxi driver, who informed him that Seth claimed to have left her son at a friend’s house in Fatorda, providing a fake address. Suspecting foul play, Naik directed the taxi driver to visit a nearby police station without Seth’s knowledge.
Upon reaching the Aimangala police station in the Chitradurga district, officers discovered the child’s body in a bag inside the taxi. The motive behind the murder is yet to be ascertained.
Suchana Seth is the founder and CEO of the artificial intelligence (AI) startup, Mindful AI Labs. Described as an “AI ethics expert and data scientist with over 12 years of experience,” Seth has held positions as a Mozilla Fellow at Data & Society, a Fellow at the Berkman Klein Centre at Harvard University, and a research fellow at Raman Research Institute. She is also listed on the “100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics List” according to her LinkedIn profile, which also notes her patents in natural language processing.
