Bengaluru: The North East CEN police detained a conman for making people pay him online for appliance repair while posing as a technician for a well-known appliance company.
The accused has been identified as Abdul Subaan (25), a resident of Gurappanapalya. He is accused of posting a fake profile on social media with his contact information.
According to sources, he would ask people to send him pictures of the appliance’s structural parts and give them a price estimate, when someone contacted him for repair. The customer will be asked to pay online.
After receiving the payment, he blocked the customer.
He used to visit the house if the customer wouldn’t pay him online. After checking the appliance, he would request payment from the client to purchase any parts that seemed to require replacing. The moment he has the money, he will flee.
Four SIM cards and two mobile phones have been recovered by the police from him.
The accused has been booked under the IT Act, IPC 419 (cheating by personation) and 420 (cheating).
