Bengaluru: In a deeply disturbing case, a police constable serving with the Special Action Force (SAF) in Mangaluru has been arrested after a woman advocate accused him of rape under the false promise of marriage.

Allegations of deception and assault

The complainant, a practising lawyer, lodged a formal complaint at the Basaveshwaranagar police station in Bengaluru. She alleged that the accused, Constable Siddegowda, entered into a sexual relationship with her by falsely promising to marry her.

According to the complaint, when he later refused to honour his commitment, the woman approached the police and filed a case of rape.

Arrest and judicial custody

Following the registration of the FIR, the Basaveshwaranagar police arrested Siddegowda and produced him before a local court. The court subsequently remanded him to judicial custody.

Officials confirmed that a rape case has been registered and that investigations are in progress.

Concern over misuse of position

The incident has sparked concern among citizens, as the accused is a serving police constable, entrusted with upholding the law. Allegations of a law enforcement officer exploiting his position for personal gain have drawn sharp reactions from legal circles and activists.

Investigation ongoing

Police sources confirmed that further inquiry is being conducted to collect evidence and record statements from both the complainant and other individuals linked to the case.

No official statement has been issued by the accused or his legal counsel at the time of reporting. Authorities have assured that the case will be pursued in accordance with the law.

Conclusion

The arrest has once again raised questions about accountability within the police force and the mechanisms in place to address complaints of misconduct. The outcome of the ongoing investigation is likely to have wider implications for both law enforcement integrity and public trust.
