Bengaluru: A police head constable from Chamarajpet police station, identified as BK Madhusoodhan, has been suspended after being accused of attempting to assault fellow officers, including an inspector, during an incident linked to an illegal liquor supply investigation.

FIR filed against cop and cousin

The incident occurred on August 24, when patrolling staff from KP Agrahara police station visited an eatery named Appu-Fish-Tava near Magadi Road toll gate. The outlet, run by Madhusoodhan’s cousin Manjunath, was allegedly supplying liquor to customers from a nearby bar without proper authorisation.

According to the FIR, two constables questioned Manjunath regarding the licence for liquor sales, but he allegedly responded arrogantly. Soon after, Madhusoodhan reached the spot and, instead of cooperating, allegedly threatened the constables and attempted to attack Inspector Govindaraju when he arrived.

Suspension and inquiry

Following the FIR against Madhusoodhan and Manjunath, senior officers suspended the head constable pending a departmental inquiry. Police sources stated that the alleged misconduct violated service rules and posed a serious threat to discipline within the force.

The investigation will also cover allegations of illegal liquor distribution at the eatery and potential involvement of other individuals.

Broader implications

Authorities emphasised that strict action would be taken to ensure law enforcement personnel uphold integrity. “No officer is above the law. Departmental as well as criminal proceedings will follow,” a senior official said.
