Bengaluru: Deepavali fest, labourers shortage for road works

Bengaluru: On account of the Deepavali festival, there is a shortage of labourers to close the potholes on the roads and the work to close the potholes has suffered a setback since Monday October 24. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Officials said the situation will continue till Thursday October 27.

The BBMP has started the work of filling potholes in the City since Saturday October 22 as the rainfall has decreased since last Friday October 21. The potholes have been closed without any respite from Saturday till Sunday evening. However, the workers have been on leave since Monday due to Deepavali festival. Thus, the work of closing the potholes has suffered a setback.

From Saturday morning to evening, 27 loads of hot bitumen were procured from BBMP’s asphaltation mixing unit and 550 pits received from a private unit and on Saturday night, 309 potholes were covered with 13 loads of asphaltation mixture. A total of 570 potholes have been closed using a total of 27 loads till the evening of Sunday October 23.

A total of 1,429 potholes were closed in two days. On Sunday night, only five loads of asphaltation mixture were supplied and 150 potholes were closed. As many as 181 potholes were closed on eight roads in the City from morning till evening on Monday. Officials informed that 1,760 potholes have been closed so far.
