A Bengaluru-based woman doctor has taken to X to narrate her experience after her legally parked car was allegedly vandalised by local residents. According to her post, the vehicle — parked within a permitted zone — had its tyre punctured, body scratched, and windshield smeared with mud.

“Which other country lets you avoid building a parking space, add an extra room instead, claim the public road as private property, and feel entitled to vandalise any car legally parked there?” she wrote.

The doctor added that she has faced repeated harassment over the years, including threats to damage her car with sticks. She is now reviewing dashcam footage to identify the alleged offender. The incident reportedly occurred when she was away from the spot, and she suspects an elderly retired couple may be involved.

Her post quickly gained traction, prompting strong reactions from netizens. Some urged her to lodge an official complaint with the traffic police and install CCTV cameras at home. Others called for stricter enforcement against residents who illegally reserve public spaces with cones, flowerpots, or barricades — especially in areas like Indira Nagar.

“This is horrific. Roads and footpaths are public spaces, not private property,” one user wrote. Another condemned the practice of converting sidewalks into personal gardens, forcing pedestrians onto the road.

The incident has reignited debate on Bengaluru’s growing problem of public space encroachment and the need for stronger civic action.
