Bengaluru: A 29-year-old man was arrested in Bengaluru after allegedly abusing a woman police officer when caught drink-driving in Indiranagar late Thursday night. The accused reportedly demanded that the officer speak either Hindi or English.

Incident details
The accused, identified as Aditya Agarwal from Akshayanagar near Bannerghatta Road, was stopped by WPSI Kavitha D outside Vapour Pub near a police checkpoint. The police suspected Agarwal of attempting to evade the check when he tried to get into his car via the pub valet. Upon being asked to stop, he ran into the pub but was later brought out by staff at the officer’s request.

Abuse and arrest
When Kavitha asked Agarwal to undergo a breathalyser test, he refused and insulted her, insisting she communicate only in Hindi or English. The verbal abuse drew a crowd, with the accused mocking the Kannada language and the police personnel. Kavitha handed him over to the Hoysala patrol team. The breathalyser test confirmed he was above the legal limit.

Legal action
Agarwal was booked for drink-driving, sent to judicial custody, and his car was seized. The police have launched a further investigation into the matter.

Conclusion
The incident highlights issues of misconduct and abuse toward police personnel, as well as public intolerance toward local languages. Authorities continue to enforce traffic laws strictly to curb drink-driving in Bengaluru.
