Bengaluru: As many as 20 persons were arrested from three states for allegedly defrauding over 1,000 people while posing as sellers of electric scooters, informed the police.
Police said that among the accused, 11 were from Bihar, 4 were from Telangana, 3 were from Jharkhand, and 2 were from Karnataka.
The victims were initially asked to pay Rs. 499 online for registration, and they were then asked to transfer cash for things like transportation and vehicle insurance.
They would deceive the victims by saying there would be a delay in the delivery of the vehicles when they received the money, said the police.
The fraud came to light after a person, who alleged to have lost Rs. 30,998, filed a complaint. His interrogation exposed the entire gang.
The arrested accused have been identified as Sushant Kumar (22), Rajesh Kumar (29), Aman Kumar (25), Anish (26), Bittu (27), T. V. Venkatachala (35), Nagesh S. P. (31), Sanni (22), Nawlesh Kumar (22), Adaitya (22), Vivek Kumar (25), Anand Kumar (21), Katravath Shiva Kumar (22), Katravath Ramesh (19) and G. Srinu (21), Murari Kumar (38), Ajay Kumar (19), Abinash Kumar (22), Prince Kumar Gupta (37), and Vadithya Chinna (22)
The police reported that they had recovered seven laptops, 38 smartphones, 25 basic phones, two hard discs, two smartwatches, and 114 sim cards from their possession.
