Bengaluru: The Amruthahalli police have arrested a 30-year-old private firm employee for allegedly molesting a woman twice in quick succession when she was tending to an injured stray dog. The incident occurred on September 8 but came to light only after the victim lodged a complaint on September 12, following legal consultation.

Incident near Jakkur Double Road

According to the FIR, the 29-year-old victim, a web designer, was travelling with her friend towards Bharati Nagar in his car around midnight when they noticed a stray dog lying injured on Jakkur Double Road. The woman got down from the car to assist the animal.

It was at this time that the suspect, identified as Manjunath, allegedly approached her on a motorcycle and molested her. Startled, the victim screamed, forcing the accused to flee.

Second assault and pursuit

After crossing the road with the dog, the woman went to a nearby petrol station to wash her hands. As she was returning, the same man appeared again and molested her for the second time, the complaint stated.

The victim and her friend immediately chased the suspect. While attempting to escape at high speed, he lost control of his vehicle and fell, sustaining injuries. He was shifted to a hospital for treatment.

Arrest and investigation

Police said Manjunath was found to be under the influence of alcohol, having returned from a party before committing the offence. He has been booked under Section 74 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (assault or use of criminal force to a woman with intent to outrage her modesty).

A senior police officer confirmed the arrest and added that notice has been served to the accused for further proceedings.

Rising concerns

This case adds to growing concerns over women’s safety in Bengaluru, with residents urging stronger preventive policing, stricter enforcement, and public awareness campaigns to deter such crimes.
