In a shocking incident in Bengaluru’s Anekal taluk, a young woman was molested and assaulted by a group of men while she was out purchasing groceries in broad daylight. The attack occurred around 4 PM near Renuka Yellamma Layout, under Bannerghatta Police Station limits.

The survivor, who recently moved into the area, stated that she encountered a group of 4–5 intoxicated men engaged in a street brawl. As she walked past them, the men reportedly hurled obscene remarks, tried to grope her, and encircled her. “They were drunk, high on ganja, and clearly had bad intentions,” she said. When she resisted, they physically attacked her. “I kicked one in self-defence,” she added.

Nearby residents intervened and helped her escape. However, the assailants later returned and assaulted the same locals who had come to her aid. The survivor also alleged that the group followed her home and issued threats at her doorstep.

She filed a police complaint the same night. However, she claimed one of the accused, who injured himself on her gate during the confrontation, also lodged a counter-complaint.

Bengaluru Rural SP C.K. Baba confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. He stated that the main accused has been arrested, while two or three others seen in CCTV footage will be apprehended soon.

This comes amidst another incident in April, where CCTV caught a man molesting a woman at night in BTM Layout, triggering further concerns about women’s safety in Bengaluru.
