The Bengaluru police have apprehended two youths from Haryana for allegedly orchestrating a scam involving imposters appearing for a written examination to secure clerical positions at a city school. The fraudulent activity was uncovered at Rashtriya Military School when the suspects, identified as Aatish (20) and Ajay Kumar (19), attended a skill examination, and their fingerprints failed to match those of the proxies who had taken the exam on their behalf.

The school’s administrative officer, Major Sumit Dhiman, filed a complaint with the Ashoknagar police station upon discovering the discrepancy. The incident came to light after the school advertised vacancies for lower division clerks on March 9 last year, with eligibility criteria stipulating candidates aged between 18 and 25.

Aatish and Ajay submitted their applications and paid the examination fees via demand draft. However, during the written test held at the school’s Austin Town campus on March 24, impersonators appeared on behalf of the accused. Suspicion arose during the subsequent skill assessment on March 30 when the fingerprints of Aatish and Ajay did not match those collected previously.

Further investigation revealed that Aatish had enlisted a relative proficient in competitive exams as his proxy, while Ajay utilized a friend’s assistance. The duo provided their authentic Aadhaar cards to the imposters, unaware that their fingerprints would be scrutinized.

A special police team has been formed to apprehend the imposters, who are believed to be in Haryana. The Ashok Nagar police have registered a case under sections 419, 420, 465, 468, and 471 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) related to cheating, forgery, and impersonation.
