Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda has announced that efforts are underway to appeal in the Supreme Court against the bail granted by the Karnataka High Court to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and others accused in the Renukaswamy murder case. A proposal will soon be submitted to the state government to facilitate the appeal process.
The Karnataka High Court recently granted conditional bail to Darshan and his co-accused, including Pavithra Gowda (accused number 1) and several others. Renukaswamy, a 33-year-old native of Chitradurga and a fan of the actor, was murdered on June 9. Police reports allege that Pavithra Gowda was the primary instigator, accusing her of conspiring with Darshan and other suspects to execute the crime.
Renukaswamy had reportedly sent obscene messages to Pavithra Gowda, which enraged Darshan. The victim was lured to a shed under the pretext of meeting the actor, where he was allegedly tortured and killed. The post-mortem report revealed that Renukaswamy succumbed to shock and hemorrhage caused by multiple blunt injuries.
Darshan, previously on interim bail for medical reasons, was arrested on June 11 and released on October 30 for spine surgery. The case has sparked widespread outrage, with police committed to pursuing justice.
