The Bengaluru police have apprehended 26-year-old history-sheeter Rahul, alias Star, for allegedly setting his former girlfriend’s car ablaze in Subramanyapura, South Bengaluru.

Rahul, with over 20 criminal cases against him, was tracked down on the city’s outskirts by the Central Crime Branch (CCB) after going into hiding. The incident occurred at around 1:30 am on February 23, when he, accompanied by two associates, entered an apartment parking lot, identified his ex-girlfriend’s Hyundai i20, and set it on fire.

A known offender, Rahul has a bullet wound on his left leg from a 2020 police encounter when he attacked an officer while resisting arrest. Authorities had been closely monitoring his movements, regularly summoning him to curb his activities. However, his latest arson attack marked a significant escalation in his criminal behavior.

Investigations revealed that Rahul had been in a long-term relationship with the woman, but she recently began distancing herself. Enraged by her decision, he first created chaos outside her father’s home in CK Achukattu. Upon discovering her new residence in Subramanyapura, he and an accomplice located her car and set it on fire to instill fear.

A joint effort by the CCB and local police led to his arrest. Further investigation is underway.
