Bengaluru City Police Commissioner B. Dayananda revealed on Tuesday that the police force is in the process of filing a petition in the Supreme Court to contest the bail granted to the suspects involved in the Renukaswamy murder case. He mentioned that a formal request will soon be sent to the state government for approval. When asked about the possibility of invoking the Goonda Act against actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and other individuals connected to the case, Dayananda confirmed there were no such plans at present.
Meanwhile, Pavithra Gowda, the primary suspect in the kidnapping and gruesome murder of Renukaswamy from Chitradurga, was released from Bengaluru Central Prison in Parappana Agrahara on Tuesday. She had been in judicial detention since June 20, 2024, and spent 179 days in custody. The Karnataka High Court had granted her bail on Friday, but due to delays in the court order reaching jail authorities, her release was postponed until Tuesday.
Upon her release, Pavithra was greeted by her mother and brother. She was seen smiling as she walked to the police outpost to complete the necessary formalities. Afterward, she reportedly visited a temple located on Kanakapura Road near Thalagattapura.
Actor Darshan, who also received bail last Friday, remains in the hospital for health-related reasons. Several other accused individuals, including R. Nagaraju, Anu Kumar, M. Lakshman, Jagadish alias Jagga, and Pradosh S. Rao, have also been granted bail, though some are still in prison due to difficulties in providing the required surety.
