While news of traffic snarls and language disputes dominates Bengaluru, the city has shown it still overflows with empathy.
Hidden behind Clarence Public School in JP Nagar’s Dollars Colony stands a modest wall bearing the carved likeness of Pikachu, a beloved stray dog who once wandered the lanes. Residents penned touching messages around the engraving, a testament to their lasting affection for their four-legged companion.
The tribute went viral after Bengalurean Nithin Kumar posted, “Walk behind Clarence Public School and you’ll find something special.” The image resonated widely, coinciding with a unique civic initiative aimed at improving the welfare of street dogs.
Earlier this week, the BBMP announced it would serve freshly prepared meals to nearly 5,000 strays daily. The menu—featuring chicken rice, egg rice, and vegetables—has been designed to deliver around 750 kilocalories per dog, along with clean water. Over 100 feeding points across the city will distribute the nutritious food.
Officials hope this program will reduce bite cases by ensuring fewer hungry, anxious animals roam the streets.
The move has inspired a flood of memes and warm reactions. One user quipped, “Bengaluru dogs now dine better than most of us,” while another imagined pampered strays lounging contentedly after feasting.
Amid challenges, Bengaluru’s big heart continues to shine through compassion for its voiceless residents.
