Bengaluru: Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Sunday November 27 said that the State Government will release Rs. 10 Crore for preventing the spread of pests which were attacking the areca plants.
The funds will be used in Chikkamagaluru, Shivamogga and other Mlanad regions.
Speaking to mediapersons Bommai said that the government has sent a university team to study the pests.
“The Central government’s team of experts has already conducted a study in Chikkamagaluru. The pesticide will be sprayed to eradicate the fungus since the pest spreads from one tree to another as a result of wind and rain.
The government will follow all recommendations given by scientists to take preventive measures to stop the spread of the pest,” he said.
The Central Government and the concerned agencies are working to find a pest control solution after a specific pest attacked the areca nut in the Malnad region.
The government would take the necessary steps after agricultural specialists determine the root of the problem.
