Thursday morning brought light rain to Bengaluru, causing minor waterlogging and traffic issues in parts of the city. Areas like Yelahanka Junction towards Airport Road, Old Madras Road near Tin Factory, and Town Hall experienced slow-moving traffic. A fallen tree on Mother Teresa Road in Austin Town further delayed commuters during peak hours.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported rainfall of 3.6 mm at the city observatory and 2.4 mm at HAL until 8:30 pm. The Kempegowda International Airport observatory recorded a higher 6.2 mm until 5:30 pm. Despite disruptions, the rain brought much-needed relief from the dry weather.
IMD forecasts suggest continued showers over the next few days in South Interior and Coastal Karnataka, while North Interior Karnataka will likely remain dry, with shallow fog in some areas. “Regions like Kolar, Tumakuru, and Chikkaballapur may witness heavy rainfall, but moisture levels have declined as the system moves southward,” explained N Puviarasan, Scientist ‘F’ at the Meteorological Centre, Bengaluru.
Bengaluru can expect light rain on Friday, followed by a dry and cloudy weekend. Surrounding districts, including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Ramanagara, Kolar, and Tumakuru, may see isolated heavy rains. Coastal Karnataka will also experience light to moderate rainfall.
Commuters are advised to plan their travel cautiously during rainy spells to avoid delays.
