Several parts of the city will face a scheduled power outage on Wednesday, November 19, as the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) will carry out quarterly maintenance work across key power distribution stations. The outage, expected to last seven hours—from 10am to 5pm—will impact both residential areas and commercial pockets, prompting residents to plan their day accordingly.

Areas likely to be affected

According to BESCOM, the maintenance shutdown will affect large sections of West Bengaluru. Several densely populated neighbourhoods, including parts of Rajajinagar, Malleshwaram and surrounding localities, are likely to see power interruptions for the entire duration of the maintenance window.

The complete list of affected areas includes:
Rajajinagar 1st Block, 2nd Block, 3rd Block, 4th Block, 5th Block and 6th Block; West of Cord Road (1st to 5th Cross); Mahaganapatinagar; Dr Modi Hospital Road; Manjunathnagar; Shivanagar; Agrahara Dasarahalli; Link Road; Prakash Nagar; KHB Colony 2nd Phase; Devaiah Park; Gubbanna Industrial Area; Nagappa Block; Brigade Gateway Apartments; Gayatri Nagar; Subramanyanagar; LN Pura; Raj Kumar Road; Dayanandnagar; Sai Mandir area; Harishchandra Ghat; Pipeline and nearby areas; Shani Mahatma Temple surroundings; and sections of Palace Guttahalli, Muneshwar Block, Malleshwaram Swimming Pool area and Maruti Extension.

BESCOM added that additional pockets surrounding these areas may also experience brief interruptions depending on the progress of maintenance activities.

Date and timing of the outage

The power shutdown has been officially scheduled for:

Date: November 19, 2025 (Wednesday)
Time: 10am to 5pm (7 hours)

Authorities have clarified that the schedule may be adjusted slightly depending on field conditions, but the same will be communicated in advance if changes occur.

Why the power cut is necessary

The power interruption is part of BESCOM’s ongoing effort to improve electricity supply reliability and upgrade aging infrastructure across Bengaluru. Maintenance work will be carried out at the 220/66/11 kV NRS, 66/11 kV Palladium, and 66/11 kV Telecom Layout power distribution stations. These stations supply power to several high-density regions and require periodic inspection and repair to prevent future breakdowns and ensure uninterrupted service during peak consumption periods.

BESCOM clarified that the maintenance involves checking transformer health, upgrading worn-out components, inspecting feeder lines, testing load capacity and ensuring that all safety mechanisms are functional. Such preventive steps, the utility stated, are crucial to reducing unexpected power failures in the long run.

Advisory issued for residents

BESCOM has urged residents of the affected regions to make preparations in advance to minimise inconvenience.

The advisory includes:

  • Charging essential electronic devices such as mobile phones, laptops and power banks.
  • Storing adequate water, especially in households dependent on electric motors for pumping.
  • Planning household chores such as cooking, laundry and ironing before the outage period.
  • Ensuring backup arrangements for medical equipment that requires continuous power.

Commercial establishments, including shops and small businesses, have also been advised to plan their schedules accordingly, especially those relying heavily on electrically operated equipment.

City’s recurring maintenance-driven outages

Bengaluru has witnessed a series of scheduled power outages over the past few months due to the city-wide infrastructure strengthening programme undertaken by BESCOM. With rapid urban expansion and rising electricity consumption, the power network has been under increasing load, making maintenance essential to avoid untimely disruptions.

The utility has reiterated that planned outages, although inconvenient, help prevent larger outages caused by faulty equipment or overload failures. The scheduled works are part of a long-term strategy to upgrade transformers, replace aging cables, modernise sub-stations and ensure greater stability in the grid.

Conclusion

With several key neighbourhoods set to be impacted, residents are advised to plan their activities ahead of time to minimise disruption. BESCOM has assured that all efforts will be made to complete the maintenance work within the scheduled window. As Bengaluru continues to grow, such upgrades play an important role in ensuring a more stable and resilient power infrastructure for the future.
