Bengaluru, Karnataka: Residents across several areas of Bengaluru will experience a power outage on Sunday, October 12, as the Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) carries out essential maintenance work. The electricity supply company has announced that the outage will last approximately seven to eight hours, from 10 am to 5 pm.

Areas affected and timings

The maintenance work involves reconnection of the AB cable of the F5 Srinivasapura line under the 66/11 KV sub-station. The power cut will affect multiple areas along the 17 Kollur and F8 Kotapalli routes, BESCOM stated in a post on X. Residents have been requested to cooperate during this period and make necessary arrangements in advance.

Additionally, BESCOM has highlighted that power outages will continue on October 13 and 14 (Monday and Tuesday) for around eight hours each day. The outages during these days will impact areas from Hedagarahalli to Nagarghatta.

Background on frequent power cuts

Parts of Bengaluru have been experiencing intermittent power cuts over the past two months, with residents often facing eight to nine hours of electricity disruption, especially on weekends. Officials from the Karnataka energy department clarified that these outages are not “load shedding” but are part of a long-pending maintenance drive by KPTCL and BESCOM.

The maintenance work, which was initially scheduled earlier this year, had been repeatedly postponed due to various reasons. This month, BESCOM and KPTCL have resumed the upgrades in multiple phases to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply in the long term.

Safety and precautions

BESCOM has advised residents to avoid using high-power appliances during the outage period and to take necessary precautions to prevent inconvenience. The authorities also urged residents to cooperate with maintenance teams to facilitate the smooth completion of ongoing work.
