The Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is set to commence the supply of recycled water for construction activities starting from April 2. V Ram Prasath Manohar, the chairman of BWSSB, announced on Sunday that this initiative aims to reduce dependency on borewells. BWSSB has engaged in discussions with the Confederation of Real Estate Developers’ Association of India (CREDAI) and the Bangalore Apartments Federation (BAF) regarding this endeavor.
Key Details of the Initiative
Developers have already placed orders for 62 lakh litres of recycled water, indicating a growing demand for this resource. The sale of recycled water is anticipated to generate revenue for the board, which has partnered with the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) for third-party certification.
Furthermore, BWSSB has granted permission to apartment complexes to sell 50% of their recycled water. Additionally, the board plans to lay separate pipelines to supply treated water to construction sites located within a 500-meter radius of any sewage treatment plant.
This initiative not only addresses the pressing issue of water scarcity but also promotes sustainable practices within the construction industry.
