Bengaluru Traffic Police Step Up to Fill Dangerous Potholes Amid Heavy Rains
As continuous heavy rains wreak havoc in Bengaluru, creating dangerous potholes and waterlogged roads, the city’s traffic police have taken proactive measures to address the pressing issue. The recent downpours have not only led to uneven surfaces but also contributed to severe traffic slowdowns, making commuting a frustrating experience for many motorists.
In response to the deteriorating road conditions, Bengaluru traffic police officers have begun filling potholes personally, a commendable initiative that has garnered praise from citizens across the city. Officers were seen shoveling gravel and cement into potholes on major roads, including busy intersections like the Doddanekundi junction, where heavy rains had caused significant damage.
“This situation can lead to accidents, so we decided to act swiftly,” remarked a traffic police officer involved in the repairs, noting the high volume of vehicles on the road, especially during the weekend.
Community Response and Calls for Sustainable Solutions
While the immediate efforts by the traffic police have provided some relief, residents have voiced their concerns on social media, calling for more sustainable, long-term solutions to the city’s ongoing road maintenance issues. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has been urged to expedite its road repair efforts, particularly with the monsoon season still in full swing.
Despite the police’s commendable initiative, the persistent problem of poorly maintained roads raises questions about the effectiveness of the city’s infrastructure planning and the responsibilities of local authorities. Areas such as Outer Ring Road, Bannerghatta Road, and Whitefield have experienced severe traffic jams, with motorists facing significant delays due to both waterlogging and potholes.
