Bengaluru: In a big embarrassment to Former Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Congress High Command has asked him not to contest from Kolar. Siddaramaiah now is likely to contest from Varuna, his home turf.

According to the sources, Congress Leader Rahul Gandhi after reviewing a secret report on the possibility of Siddu’s defeat in Kolar due to the backlash by Dalits and Vokkaliga voters, advised Siddu not to contest from Kolar.

“Dalits are miffed with him due to the defeat of K. H. Muniyappa in 2019 Lok Sabha Election. Similarly, JD (S) candidate Srinath is a well known businessman and popular. So, Rahul Gandhi advised him against contesting at Kolar,” sources said.

Congress is likely to field a Vokkaliga candidate instead of Siddu. On night of Saturday March 18 Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) President D. K. Shivakumar reportedly asked Vokkaliga leaders to get ready to contest in the election.
