Bengaluru: A 23-year-old individual, identified as Vikas Gowda, residing in Yelahanka, Bengaluru, was apprehended by the authorities for purportedly gaining unauthorized access to Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru and recording a video. It’s alleged that on April 7, using a ticket for a Chennai-bound Air India flight, he entered the airport around 12 pm but intentionally avoided boarding the flight. Instead, he wandered around the airport premises, capturing footage on his mobile device.
Subsequently, on April 12, he allegedly uploaded a video on his YouTube channel, boasting about spending a full day at the airport and exploring various restricted areas, which he later deleted.
According to a senior police official, Gowda cleared security at Terminal-2 and loitered in the boarding lounge for nearly six hours before departing, claiming he had missed his flight. Security personnel, unaware of his activities, didn’t suspect him due to his valid ticket and boarding pass.
Initial investigations suggest that Gowda’s actions were driven by a desire for publicity, and the claims made in his video were exaggerated.
The incident was reported to airport security on April 15, leading to a complaint filed by a Central Industrial Security Force official. Consequently, Gowda was charged under Sections 505 (Statements conducing to public mischief) and 448 (house trespass) of the Indian Penal Code and subsequently arrested. He has since been released on bail.
