Bengaluru’s First Double-Decker Flyover Ready for Use

Bengaluru's First Double Decker Flyover Ready For Use

After several delays, Bengaluru’s first double-decker flyover is finally ready. The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) announced that the 3.3 km road flyover from Ragigudda to Central Silk Board (CSB) along the Yellow Line (RV Road – Bommasandra) has been completed. Vehicular movement on the flyover (one side from Ragigudda to CSB) will be allowed on or after June 15, following a final inspection by the authorities.

The lower deck of the flyover will be used by vehicles, while the top deck will be for Namma Metro. This innovative road-cum-metro structure, already operational in cities like Jaipur, Nagpur, and Mumbai, aims to create a signal-free corridor between Ragigudda and CSB, reducing traffic congestion during peak hours.

The CSB junction, one of Bengaluru’s busiest, will also have two Metro stations: the Blue Line (CSB-KR Puram) along the Outer Ring Road and the Yellow Line (RV Road-Bommasandra). Initially, the plan was to integrate both stations, but due to a 355-meter distance between them, BMRCL proposes a travelator for access between the two lines.

A trial run on the entire Electronics City corridor (Yellow Line: RV Road – Bommasandra) is scheduled for June 13, after a delay from the original June 7 date due to technical issues. This 18.8-km line is crucial for connecting Bengaluru’s tech hub, Electronics City, to the metro network. Though initially expected to be operational in 2021, the deadline has been pushed to December 2024 due to train availability issues.
