Bengaluru : Authorities from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) have taken action against Mantri Mall in Bengaluru, sealing off the premises due to the mall’s failure to address a significant tax debt of approximately Rs 32 crore.
This closure marks a recurring issue for the prominent shopping center, which has faced tax-related challenges in the past, resulting in periodic closures. However, this recent closure appears to be more stringent, with officials sealing the main entrance and deploying marshals and police personnel to ensure compliance.
The BBMP, overseeing the city’s administration, revealed that despite repeated reminders and extensions, Mantri Mall had not fulfilled its tax obligations. The accumulation of arrears, totaling Rs 32 crore, compelled authorities to take decisive action, rendering the mall deserted with its shutters down. Notably, the BBMP offered a one-time payment option to settle the outstanding dues, yet Mantri Mall allegedly made no efforts to resolve the matter, leading to the current closure.
Earlier, on December 28, BBMP had also closed Mantri Mall for similar reasons, pertaining to unpaid taxes amounting to Rs 51 crore. Subsequent to the closure, all shops were shuttered, and the main entrance of the mall was sealed off.
