Bengaluru’s notorious Outer Ring Road (ORR) traffic congestion, especially between 9–10 am, has prompted a high-level intervention from traffic officials, city planners, and IT industry leaders.

In a recent summit, key stakeholders discussed an action plan to reduce peak-hour chaos. A major proposal includes staggering office timings at tech parks along the ORR, with employee shifts starting as early as 7:30 am to avoid rush-hour overlap. Another suggestion is introducing “Work from Home Wednesdays” to reduce mid-week road pressure.

The Bangalore Mirror reported that civic agencies aim to fast-track ongoing civil works, improve public transport, and deploy tech-driven solutions. Plans include constructing dedicated bus bays at critical junctions, expanding BMTC’s air-conditioned bus fleet for IT employees, and encouraging companies to operate inter-campus shuttle services.

To support smarter traffic flow, surveillance cameras will soon be installed to monitor and analyze vehicle movement patterns in real time.

Officials are also emphasizing the promotion of shared commuting. Measures like carpooling, pooling of shuttle services, and wider BMTC coverage are being encouraged.

Enhanced ground-level coordination is also underway. Proposals include deploying more traffic marshals, launching bike patrols, and enlisting staff volunteers to streamline flow. A rapid response plan for breakdowns involving buses or trucks is also being finalized.

Strict action against illegal parking and restrictions on heavy vehicles during peak hours are in the works. Tech firms, meanwhile, have asked for advance notices regarding WFH schedules—especially for Wednesdays and Saturdays—to help plan operations efficiently.
