Bengaluru: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Sunday celebrated Deepavali with Border Security Force (BSF) jawans at Yelahanka. Union Ministers D V Sadananda Gowda, H N Ananth Kumar and BJP state unit president B S Yeddyurappa and others leaders distributed sweets to BSF jawans.

Former IAS officer Somashekhar joins BJP-1Speaking on the occasion, B S Yeddyurappa said that armed forces had given Pakistan a fitting reply by organising surgical attacks on terror camps across the Line of Control (LoC). “We are celebrating Deepavali here to congratulate our defence personnel. We are safe from our enemies because of our armed personnel. We want to convey a message to armed forces that citizens of this country are with the families of armed forces,’’ Yeddyurappa said.

When asked about the state government’s negligence in meeting the demands of ex-servicemen and others, Yeddyurappa said the state government should meet their demands on a priority basis. “I demand the state government to take measures to solve the problems of ex-servicemen. I want the ex-servicemen to wait till the BJP comes to power in the state. I will attend to their problems on a priority basis if the BJP returns to power during the next assembly elections,’’ he said.

Speaking on the occasion, Union Minister D V Sadananda Gowda said that he has been celebrating Deepavali every year with family members and friends. “This Deepavali is special for me. I am happy to celebrate Deepavali with defence personnel,’’ Gowda said.

Union Minister H N Ananth Kumar said that he was very happy to celebrate Deepavali with BSF jawans as per Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s direction. “BSF personnel play a key role in preventing the terrorists entering our country. Our country is safe from enemies because of BSF jawans. We are celebrating Deepavali today but our army personnel have already celebrated Deepavali one month earlier by organising surgical attacks on terror camps along the LoC,’’ Minister Ananth Kumar said.
