Bengaluru: Maharaja Yaduveera Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar and Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, the wife of late Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar today inaugurated the much-hyped and publicised 10-day flower show, which is expected to attract over 5 lakh visitors, will be featuring as many as 800 aesthetic exhibits at Glass House in Lalbagh, recently.
The notable part of the inaugural function was the absence of politicians and ministers due to the code of conduct being in place on the eve of forthcoming Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Council elections.
The show is open for the public from 9 am to 6 pm and entry fee has been fixed at Rs 40 for adults and Rs 10 for children. The entry fee will be more on holidays. Visitors have to pay Rs 50 towards the entry fee on holidays. The added attraction at the 202nd flower show is the replica of Bangalore Palace created with two lakh Dutch roses and statues of five Maharajas of Mysore. The replica is 45 ft long, 35 ft height and 20 ft width. The organisers have spent Rs 30 lakh to create this piece.
Speaking on the occasion, Maharaja Yaduveera Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar thanked the organisers for the reception and honour accorded to him and Pramoda Devi Wadiyar. “Lalbagh is an asset for capital city Bangalore. I hope to come again and again to Lalbagh in future,” Wadiyar said.
The organisers have installed statues of five Mysore Maharajas. They also put up boards near the statues narrating the contributions of the respective five Maharajas. They also opened a photo exhibition on Mysore Palace and Mysore Maharajas. The other added attraction is the sand sculpture of former president late Dr APJ Abdul Kalam. Mysore-based sand artists Gowri MN and Neelambika made this sand sculpture in 12 hours.
