Bengaluru: With growing criticism over Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation’s (BMRCL’s) plan to shift the proposed Metro station away from the Cantonment railway station, the state government is believed to have asked the BMRCL to conduct another survey of the original alignment.

On Saturday, a group of BMRCL engineers conducted a survey of the alignment on Benson Cross Road, which is part of the original alignment. The move to shift the Metro station away from the railway station to a playground in Bamboo Bazaar had led to widespread criticism.

The BMRCL sources said the survey will detail the costs and challenges of realigning the underground line through Cantonment railway station, as listed in the original detailed project report (DPR) prepared by the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation in September 2011.

The survey report is expected to be ready within 10 days, after which it will be presented to the State government.

For activists who have been protesting the change from the DPR alignment, the resurvey is a positive step” that could prove their point.
