Bengaluru: In order to enhance connectivity from the city to the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) via the Namma Metro, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (BMRCL) has bought land from the NHAI along NH 44 (Ballari Road). The BMRCL has reportedly paid a sum of Rs 141 crore for 1.05 lakh sq m of land. Reportedly, the NHAI has also asked the BMRCL to pay an interest of 13.8% from the time the land was acquired (2010-2011).

The land is required only to build metro stations at the identified locations, according to sources. The proposed metro line will come under Phase II-B, and the work will be taken up from the proposed K R Puram interchange station to the KIA. The route will go through Nagawara and Hebbal. This line will cover a distance of 55 km, originating from Silk Board and including two underground metro stations within the airport premises. Along the Ballari Road, the proposed metro line will run parallel to the elevated road from Esteem Mall.

The officials are already working on a detailed project report and are hoping to meet the project’s 2023 deadline.
