BMRCL Unveils Double-Deck Metro Line Plans to Boost Connectivity
The Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has announced an ambitious double-decker metro line as part of its Namma Metro Phase 3 expansion. Following the recently completed double-decker flyover from Ragigudda to Silk Board, BMRCL will soon start work on this new metro line to strengthen connectivity across key city corridors.
The latest update reveals that BMRCL has launched the tender process for designing Phase 3 infrastructure, which includes double-decker flyovers on three major routes aimed at easing traffic congestion. Key segments include JP Nagar 4th Stage to Kempapura and Hosahalli to Kadabagere, while additional elevated pathways with metro stations, ramps, and road connections will link Summanahalli Cross to Kadabagere and JP Nagar Station to the Nagarabhavi BDA Complex. To streamline the project, BMRCL has divided the tender process into three stages.
Phase 3 also includes critical infrastructure, such as a metro depot, skywalk, and multi-modal transport hub near Peenya and Summanahalli, enhancing multi-route access for commuters. With approval from the central government in August, the expansion spans 44.65 kilometers, with central funding for the metro line and state backing for double-decker flyovers. BMRCL has started acquiring land, identifying around 299 properties needed along the new routes, advancing Bengaluru’s metro connectivity.
