Bengaluru: BMRG Tigers won the third edition of the Canara Union Badminton League (CUBL) hosted by Canara Union Charitable Trust at Prakash Courts here on Saturday. In the CUBL Season 3 finals, BMRG Tigers defeated Carpe Diem 3-0 and bagged the title. The Tigers owned by B R Sreedhara had a firm grip right from the league stage and emerged victorious. In the first game, a fine display by Shantanu and Pradeep was the highlight of the Tigers’ win.
They defeated Venkat and Sathvik of Carpe Diem 21-14, 21-14 in straight sets. In the second game, Glen and Bhaskar of BMRG Tigers defeated Ajith and Dinu of Carpe Diem 21-11, 21-15 in straight sets. In the third game, Dr Dayanand and Ayush defeated Niranjan and Narasimhan of Carpe Diem 21-15, 21-18 in straight sets. The final result – BMRG Tigers defeated Carpe Diem in the best of 5 games 3-0.
It may be noted that CUBL witnessed the participation of 7 teams – BMRG Tigers, Carpe Diem, Le Grapes Champions, Indogas Challengers, JP Super Kings, DK Warriors, and Union Acers. In all, a total of 90 players took part in the tournament, which essentially accommodated players of all categories.
Post-round-robin league, 4 teams progressed to the super league stage and based on points were ranked in the following order – BMRG Tigers, Carpe Diem, Indogas Challengers, and DK Warriors. BMRG Tigers defeated Carpe Diem in the qualifier 3-2 to enter the finals, while DK Warriors defeated Indogas Challengers 3–0 in the elimination round. Carpe Diem defeated DK Warriors 3-2 and progressed to the finals.
