A BMTC bus crashed into a roadside food stall in Peenya, northwest Bengaluru, on Friday, reportedly resulting in one death and injuries to four others, according to initial reports. Authorities have yet to confirm the exact cause of the accident.

This is the latest in a string of troubling incidents involving Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) buses, raising serious concerns over public safety.

On July 2, a schoolboy was critically injured in Jigani, near Anekal, Bengaluru Urban district. The boy was attempting to cross the road to catch his school bus when he was hit by a speeding BMTC bus. Witnesses allege that the school bus driver did not stop despite noticing the child approaching, which contributed to the mishap.

Another alarming case surfaced from May 23 near Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a BMTC driver allegedly tried to run over a girl after an argument. The incident only came to light recently after dashcam footage from a nearby vehicle went viral online. The girl, seen standing in front of the bus to prevent it from leaving, was narrowly missed as the driver advanced the vehicle recklessly. She sustained minor injuries.

These repeated episodes have put the spotlight on BMTC’s safety protocols and driver accountability, prompting calls for stricter enforcement and investigation into operational practices.
