Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Metro transport Corporation (BMTC) is mulling over reduction in passenger fares after State Congress Working President Dinesh Gundurao proposed the same.
If BMTC reduces fares by nearly 50 percent, the passengers will benefit greatly, opined Dinesh Gundu Rao at the inauguration of Indira clinic in Majestic bus stand on December 3 and informed Transport Minister H M Revanna standing beside him to consider the proposal.
With elections round the corner, there are chances of reduction in fares to woo the voters as well as facilitate use of public transport by larger sections of society .
However, opposition BJP rubbished the claims terming it as an election gimmick.
The city transport corporation reduced the fares marginally in February to round off fares to the nearest rupee in order to minimise usage of coins. With fuel prices showing an upward trend, many feel the chances of fare reduction are minimal.
