Bengaluru: On allegations of corruption made by the BJP over the steel flyover project, Bengaluru Development Minister K J George on Wednesday said that if the Central government wants to take over the project and can implement it with a budget of Rs 1,350 crore, it is welcome to do so.
“Our only intention is to ease the traffic mess on the route. If the Centre wants to take the responsibility of implementing the project, we have no objection. We have maintained transparency and have not hidden any information relating to the steel flyover project. There are a few people who are spreading misinformation about the project,” George said.
George further stated that the government is ready to give out all the details of the project as sought by the court and citizens. He said that the steel flyover was a project first proposed and conceived by the BJP government. The BJP is jealous that they couldn’t take up the project. Since we have taken it up, they are now opposing their own project, he said.
The proposed steel flyover project from Basaveshwara Circle to Hebbal is facing stiff opposition from citizens and activists because of its exorbitant cost. The state government also plans to axe 812 trees for the proposed steel flyover project. The National Green Tribunal in its order last week stayed the implementation of the project for four weeks.
