Bengaluru: Henceforth the Karnataka Prevention of Dangerous Activities of Bootleggers, Drug Offenders, Gamblers, Goonda, Immoral Traffic Offenders, Slum Grabbers and Video or Audio Pirates, Sexual Assault Accused which is popularly known as Goonda Act will be imposed on the chain snatchers in Bengaluru city.
City Police Commissioner T Sunil Kumar has issued an order in this regard.
According to the sources privy to the developments, in Bengaluru city, it has been found that chain snatching gangs from Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana beside Iranian gangs are active. As many of them are repeated offenders, it has been decided to impose Goonda Act against the arrested accused.
“Once the Goonda Act is imposed, the accused can’t get bail for the next one year”, said an officer.
“Tabrez who has been arrested for involving in 80 chain snatching incidents will be the first chain snatcher to be booked under the Goonda Act,” informed police.
