Bengaluru: Chikamagaluru and Dakshina Kannada district administrations have lifted the restrictions on the movement of the light vehicles on the Charmadi ghat road, which connects Belthangady and Mudigere taluks.
Till now light vehicles were allowed only between 6 am and 6 pm. Starting from Thursday, vehicles can move round the clock. However, the ban on the movement of heavy vehicles continues.
Vehicle movement on this stretch of the road was regulated since August second week following landslides in several parts. Till September 14, all kinds of vehicle movement was banned. From September 14 light vehicles were allowed to ply only between 6 am and 6 pm. Now light vehicles can move round the clock.
According to the sources, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has sent a proposal to repair this road at an estimated cost of Rs.240 crores, but the forest department denied permission for further digging and other works.
