Chikkaballapura: A group of pro-Dalit organisations in the Taluk staged a protest against the recent attacks, atrocities and oppression on Dalits in the Taluk, demanding the deportation of Kumara Reddy in connection with the murder of Durgesh and registration of a case under the Prevention of Atrocities Act.

The leaders staged a protest in the Town and demanded that the District Administration and Taluk Administration should take appropriate steps to ensure that the murderous culture on Dalits is not repeated in the Taluk, that the accused in the recent murder of Dalit youth Durgesh should be deported and a case should be registered for casteist slurs.

They also urged that Durgesh’s wife should be given a Government job and a cash of Rs. 25 lakh. They demanded compensation, immediate formation of a special team to investigate the matter, punishment for those who attacked a 9th standard boy studying in Kempadenahalli in the Taluk by tying him to a pole on charges of theft, and taking appropriate action against those who assaulted a Valmiki youth with a knife during a fair in Palepalli Village.

A massive protest march organised by a consortium of pro-Dalit organisations, demanding the arrest of the accused, protection and compensation to the victims as soon as the cases of atrocities against Dalits were registered, and an impartial investigation into cases of atrocities, also started from near the APMC Tomato Market in the Town and passed through the main streets. The protesters then laid siege to the Taluk Office and staged a protest and submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner through Deputy Tahasildar Shobha.
