Bengaluru: Following the suggestions of the geologists that stone mining in and around the world-famous Krishnaraja Sagara dam may affect the dam, Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa directed the Mandya district administration to ban all kinds of mining in the vicinity.
Over 600 villages and four major towns including Bengaluru are dependent on the KRS for drinking water. Over 2 lakh hectares of land is also dependent on the dam for the agricultural irrigation.
It has been alleged that stone mining in the Babybetta adjoining the KRS dam is causing tremors in the dam area. Even after repeated complaints to the state government, no action was taken till now.
