CM disappointed about formation of CMA despite opposition

Bengaluru: Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy expressed disappointment about the formation of 9-member Cauvery Management Authority by the union government in spite of strong opposition from Karnataka.

Speaking to media persons here on June 22, Kumaraswamy said that Centre had caused injustice to Karnataka with its unilateral decision. A request would be submitted to the union government to reconsider the decision.

The CM had met the prime minister recently and explained the various loopholes in the committee. He had also requested the PM not to declare notification before solving those problems. Moreover, he had clarified that the state would not recommend its members to the committee until it gets a solution.

As per latest notification, Central Water Commission Chairman S Masood Hussain will lead the Cauvery Management Authority formed by the Central Water Resource Department, while Chief Engineer Naveen Kumar will be the representative of the Centre.

K A Joshi of Kerala, V Shanmugasundaram of Pondicherry, R Senthil Kumar of Tamil Nadu, Indian Meteorological Department Scientist Dr. M Mohapatra, Central Water Commission Coimbatore Division Chief Engineer N M Krishnanunni, Union Agriculture Ministry (Raitha Kalyana), Horticulture Commissioner will be the other members. National Water Commission’s Chief Engineer A S Goel will be the member secretary (additional charge) of the committee.
